The move
A customer we had moved about nine years earlier got in touch again. This time they were moving from their home in Upton to a house in Hamworthy, just a few minutes down the road.
They were so pleased with our work the first time that they asked us to handle not only their own move but also the move of the family leaving the Hamworthy house. That family was heading out of the area, to Southampton.
The challenge
Linked moves in a chain depend on each other. The Upton family could not move into Hamworthy until the Hamworthy family had moved out, and both loads needed to be on the road at the right times.
There was also the usual risk in any chain: a delay in completion. If keys are released late at one end, the crew has to wait with a loaded lorry, which can hold up everything else on the day.
On this day, both families were also relying on us to be in two places at once. A single crew could not have loaded both houses in time, so the job needed careful coordination.
What we did
We put two crews on the job.
- Crew one met the first family at their Upton home at 8am and had everything loaded by 11:30am.
- Crew two was already at the Hamworthy house, loading the second family's belongings for Southampton.
The two crews worked together at Hamworthy and had the second family's goods fully loaded by 12:30pm. That cleared the house for the first family, and crew one was able to start unloading straight away.
Crew two then drove to Southampton. There, completion was delayed and the keys were not released until 3pm. The crew waited with the loaded lorry, then worked hard once they were in.
The result
The first family's move was complete by 2:30pm. Despite the late keys, the second customer was fully unloaded and settled into her new home in Southampton by 5pm.
Both customers were very pleased. One of them told us:
"I was amazed at the amount of work these lads done, with such a great sense of humour. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends."
