The move
In November 2021 a family in Rossendale, Lancashire asked us to help them move south to the Bournemouth area. They had not yet found a property, so they needed a full pack and move straight into storage while they house-hunted.
It took our crew three full days to pack up the home and move everything into our secure storage, ready for the day the family found their new home.
Packing a whole house for storage is slightly different from packing for a same-day move. Everything is wrapped and boxed to sit safely for weeks or months, and the contents are loaded into storage containers so they are not handled again until delivery.
The challenge
House-hunting took much longer than the family expected, and their belongings stayed in storage for almost a year.
Then, in 2022, their plans changed completely. Rather than settling near Bournemouth, they decided to move north instead and bought a house in Beith, in Ayrshire, south-west of Glasgow. A move that started as Lancashire to Dorset had become Dorset to the west of Scotland, with a full household of goods to deliver.
A single lorry load would not be enough for the whole household, and the new house was a very long way from where the goods were stored. The plan had to allow for more than one trip.
What we did
Because the family's belongings were already packed and stored in containers, nothing needed repacking. The contents were ready to load as soon as the new house was confirmed.
The final stage took four days in total:
- Loading the belongings from storage
- Driving the first load up to the new home in Scotland and unloading it
- Driving back south to refill the lorry with the remaining goods
- Returning to Scotland with the second load and completing the delivery
The same full-time crew handled the job throughout, so the people unloading in Ayrshire knew exactly what had gone into storage in the first place.
The result
The family moved into their new home in Scotland with all their belongings delivered safely, almost a year after we first packed them up in Lancashire.
