What a full packing service looks like
Our uniformed crew work through your home one room at a time. Fragile items are wrapped properly, heavy items go into smaller boxes, and every box is labelled with the room it is heading to.
That way, boxes go straight into the right rooms at your new home. We agree the packing date with you at the survey, so you can plan around it.
It suits busy families, people moving from larger homes, and anyone who would rather spend the time on everything else a move involves.
Fragile and valuable items
Glassware, china, mirrors, pictures and electronics are where DIY packing most often goes wrong. Our crews wrap fragile items properly and pack them so they cannot move in the box.

Packing for storage and moving abroad
Belongings going into storage need packing that will hold up over weeks or months. We pack with that in mind, so items stay protected in our containerised storage.
For European and worldwide moves, packing also needs to match the inventory for customs. Marine insurance for goods shipped abroad must be arranged by you directly.
Unpacking at your new home and furniture dismantling and reassembly are available as optional extras, charged on top of your quote.
Packing yourself? Tips from our crews
- Start with the rooms you use least, such as the loft, garage and spare room.
- Put heavy items like books in small boxes and light items like bedding in large ones.
- Fill gaps with paper so nothing shifts, and do not overfill boxes.
- Label each box on the side with the room and a short list of contents.
- Pack an essentials box for the first night: kettle, mugs, chargers, toiletries and bedding.

How much does a packing service cost?
It depends on how much you want packed, from a few fragile items to a full house. 1st Choice Removals includes packing in your removals quote after a free home visit in BH postcodes and DT11, or an online quote from anywhere else. You can see the cost of packing alongside the move itself and decide how much help you want.
Can you pack just my fragile items?
Yes. Part packing is popular with customers who are happy to pack books and clothes but would rather leave china, glass, pictures, lamps and ornaments to us. We agree exactly which rooms or items we are packing at the survey, and you can buy the materials you need for your own packing from us individually.
Are items insured if you pack them?
Yes. Items packed by our crews are covered by our goods-in-transit insurance for the move. Packing them ourselves also means they are wrapped and boxed properly for the journey. If you are moving abroad, marine insurance for the shipment must be arranged by you directly, as 1st Choice Removals does not provide it.
When do you pack, on the day or before?
It depends on the size of your home and how much you want packed. Smaller part-pack jobs can sometimes be done on the moving day, while a full pack of a larger home usually needs time set aside before the move. We agree the packing date with you at the survey, so you can plan the rest of your week around it.
Do I need to empty drawers and wardrobes?
Ask us at the survey, as it depends on the furniture. As a general rule, it is safer to empty drawers of anything heavy, fragile or loose, such as toiletries, liquids and valuables, and to remove glass shelves. Keep jewellery, documents and medication with you rather than in the lorry.
Should I declutter before the packers arrive?
Yes, if you can. Anything you are selling, donating or throwing away is better dealt with before packing day, so we do not pack and move items you no longer want. What should I keep with me even if you do a full pack?
Keep anything valuable, personal or urgent with you rather than in the boxes. That includes passports, house documents, keys, jewellery, medication, phone and laptop chargers, and a first-night bag with toiletries, a change of clothes and bedding. Set these aside in one clearly marked place before packing starts, so they are not packed by mistake.
Can you unpack at the new home?
Yes, unpacking is available as an optional extra, charged on top of your quote. Tell us at your survey which rooms you would like unpacked, such as the kitchen, and we will include it in your quote. Many customers find having the kitchen and bedrooms set up on the first night makes the biggest difference, leaving the rest to unpack at their own pace.
Can you dismantle and reassemble my furniture?
Yes. Furniture dismantling and reassembly, such as beds and wardrobes, is available as an optional extra, charged on top of your quote. Tell us at your survey which pieces you would like taken apart and rebuilt, and we will include it in your quote. Unpacking at your new home is also available as an extra.
