The move
This customer first moved with us about nine years earlier. When the time came to move again, from their home in Broadstone to a new house in Wimborne, they came straight back to us.
It is a short journey between the two towns, but a full house move is still a full house move. We visited to survey the property, agreed a quote and booked the date. The customer had already packed a good share of the boxes themselves, so our job was to load, protect, transport and unload.
The challenge
The contents included several pieces that are easy to damage and hard to replace:
- A jukebox
- Mirrored bedside cabinets
- Side tables and a glass dining table
- Loose glass from a sideboard
The customer was also keen to get into the new house and settle in, so the day needed to move at a good pace without cutting corners on care. As it turned out, the bigger test came in the afternoon, when the keys for the Wimborne house were not released on time.
What we did
The crew met the customer at the Broadstone house at around 8am. Starting early gives us time to protect the property properly and load at a steady pace rather than rushing later in the day.
The boxes the customer had packed went on first. The fragile pieces then got our specialist export-wrap treatment, the same heavy-duty wrapping we use for belongings travelling abroad. That meant the jukebox, mirrored cabinets, side tables, glass table top and sideboard glass were all individually wrapped and padded before they went on the lorry.
Everything was loaded and ready to leave by 12:30pm, and the crew were at the Wimborne house ready to unload by 1pm. The keys had not yet been released, so the team waited with the loaded lorry until the issue was sorted out. Once they were in, they protected the new property and began unloading straight away.
The result
Despite the wait, the crew had everything unloaded and placed in the right rooms by 5:20pm. The fragile items arrived exactly as they left, and the customer went to bed in their new home on moving day as planned.
