The move
A couple living in Christchurch were moving back to Kent, to a new home in Ashford. They had moved into their four-bedroom Christchurch house from a two-bedroom flat, so although the house was large, it was sparsely filled.
They asked three companies to quote, including one they had used before. They chose us, and later told us that our surveyor had properly assessed what they actually owned, rather than simply quoting for a typical four-bedroom house.
The challenge
Ashford is a long drive from Christchurch, along the south coast and across into Kent. Doing all of the loading, the journey and the unloading in a single day would have meant a rushed finish at the new house.
The move also needed to protect two properties: the home the couple were leaving and the house they were moving into. Both needed the same care, even though they were at opposite ends of the south of England.
What we did
We planned the move over two days.
Day one. The crew arrived at the Christchurch home at 8am. The first job was to protect the property with floor sheeting and padding on doors and frames. The rest of the morning was spent wrapping and loading the couple's belongings, which were then taken back and kept overnight in our secure storage.
Day two. The crew set off at 7am for Ashford, where the couple met them on arrival. The team fitted protection throughout the new house before unloading, then placed each piece of furniture exactly where the couple wanted it.
Once everything was in, the crew removed all the protective materials from walls, doors and floors, and took away the packing waste before heading home.
The result
The move was completed in good time and the couple were left to settle in, with most of the hard work done. Afterwards they sent us a review, which included these words:
"The surveyor was very professional and assessed what we had; I also felt he'd listened to me. ... The move took place over two days ... Great guys, very polite, professional and fun; they took the edge off the stress and we both felt they were in control. They protected every surface, door protectors, floor protectors, wraps for our goods, another level from anyone I'd seen before. We had three quotes, one from a company we'd used before, and these guys were a fraction as good again."
